Ezekiel Flour, Bread, and Muffin Recipe (1)

And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and emmer, and put them into a single vessel and make your bread from them. During the number of days that you lie on your side, 390 days, you shall eat it. And your food that you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from day to day you shall eat it. Ezekiel 4:9-10

Today I’m going to teach you how to make your own Ezekiel flour. Even though this story is a symbol of hardship and scarcity to come, the bread is a complete protein and high in fiber. Eating very little kept Ezekiel’s mind sharp and his digestive system in a cleanse.

Ezekiel was told to lie on his left side 390 days – equal to the number of years of Israel’s iniquity. Then he was to lie on his right side 40 days – equal to the years of Judah’s sin.

Now let me just say, there’s much to be understood about the book of Ezekiel, he was a prophet foretelling what was going to happen to Jerusalem. It appears Ezekiel is not only a prophet but a chef! He had to limit the amount of bread that he ate – 20 shekels! All of the different commentaries that I researched, they varied on how much a shekel of weighed anywhere from 10 ounces to 20 ounces of bread. That’s not very much bread to eat all day long.

A Variety Of Grains

It was mixed in one vessel like a beggar’s bag. It symbolizes going from house to house gathering whatever people had to spare. One house would offer a beggar a small handful of red beans. Another house might give a beggar a handful of Fitch (spelt). And so on. The grains would be gathered in the beggar’s bag, combined, and then milled. This bread was not a sprouted bread as many have come to believe. Although the health benefits of sprouted grain is high it does not apply to this story.
